Rigorous training will give you an in-depth understanding of the profession and equip you with the skills you need to succeed. The Musical Theatre Department functions as a theatre company. Our day-to-day acting, voice, speech and movement tuition is taught by current practitioners, offering a direct link to the industry, with projects and masterclasses being led by top professionals. We have created an environment in which individuality is nurtured and diversity embraced. Opportunities to perform throughout the year are a priority, enabling students to learn by doing. Our aim is to create artists with a voracious appetite for investigation and ongoing discovery.
Berklee Theater Arts Collaborative (BTAC)
Currently hosting active events. Edit Profile View Events Log out. The New Musicals Initiative will be bringing together dozens of writers and over fifty actors to present eight brand-new shows. The schedule is designed so that a Festival Pass holder can see four shows on one day at the Lonny Chapman Theatre, and the other four shows at the Academy on the other. Or, if audience members have only one day, they can pick and choose among all eight shows, shuttling between the theatre and the Academy, which are five doors away from each other. Musicals in the festival will be announced in late spring. Stay tuned as we get ready to announce all eight titles and casts. As was the tradition in Chicago, tickets to individual events will be available at the box office 15 minutes before curtain individual tickets cannot be reserved in advance.
Musical Theatre School. The Four-Week Musical Theatre Workshop provides a rigorous and fun training experience that closely models the first four weeks of the longer programs. The program is designed for individuals with singing and movement abilities who may or may not have prior experience on a musical theatre stage. The following courses allow students to get an introduction to the integral skills required for success in this field and learn how to prepare themselves for the varied demands of a musical theatre career. The program culminates in a presentation for faculty, friends, and classmates. All participants in the Four-Week Workshop will have the opportunity to be considered for our One or Two-Year Programs, pending space availability. Applications can be completed online or brought to the audition. Please prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs and one monologue from a contemporary American play each piece should be approximately seconds in length. When auditioning at the New York City location, a pianist will be provided.
No previous performance experience is necessary. We provide a supportive environment that encourages participants to have the confidence to try new things and to believe in their own abilities as they express their talents and have fun on stage. We also offer every child the thrill of participating in an actual show on the same stage as some of the greatest performers in the history of American entertainment — the Academy of Music! Outstanding and supportive professionals with notable accomplishments will direct the workshop. Instructors will provide participants with opportunities for artistic exploration, self-expression, skill-building and teamwork by exposing them to all aspects of musical theater.
